Read below for a detailed description of Cub Scouts and our Pack:

Cub Scout Pack 740 is open to any child from any school, but primarily recruits from the Olde Carlsbad area Elementary Schools and is appropriate for both male and female children in grades K-5. Our Pack operates during the normal Carlsbad School District school year and has a limited activity schedule during the summer months. A typical Scouting month involves 2 Den Meetings a month, one monthly Pack Meeting, and at least one outing/special event per month (hiking, fishing, camping, Pinewood Derby, etc.). Events usually last anywhere from 1 to 1 and half hours.

Den meetings are smaller-scale meetings with just the children in the same grade (or Den) and are led by their respective Den Leader. The Den meetings will be held at the Scout House at Holiday Park and will be on a day/time that works the best for all of the families. Each Den Leader started off as a new parent and volunteered to take on a leadership position to help the Pack keep going. Scouting is a 100% volunteer driven organization and we would fold if not for the sacrifice of time and energy by these volunteers. If you would like to inquire about volunteering as well, please see any current leader and they can answer your questions. Currently, each Den Leader has at least one child in the Pack and for the protection of your child, all registered Scouting Leaders will have received training in the Scouting Program, BSA Youth Protection protocols, California State abuse reporting protocols, and have undergone a fingerprinted background check.

Pack Meetings are once a month and that is when all of the families will come together to recognize the achievements of the Scouts. They are led by the Cubmaster and are themed each month with different seasonal activities. The Pack meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Harding Community Center at 6:30pm, from September to May.

First Step:
The official site to sign up is online at:
https://my.scouting.org/online-registration/355e23a6-b126-4504-aeab-dfcc...
The registration fees are about $160 (completed on the BeAScout website) and dues for this year will be voted on by the parents at the beginning of the year (was $200 per child last year). The dues will cover the cost of all awards, the rental of the meeting venues, etc. We have a Pack Venmo (@RachelRobinson760) and PayPal (currently not available) for ease of dues payments at (carlsbadpack740@gmail.com) and there are easy buttons (also currently disabled) for payments on the Pack website. Our Facebook page is Carlsbad Pack 740 and is a closed group so you'll need to request for access.

Once signed up, you will receive access to the Pack's website, located at
740carlsbadca.mypack.us/home
which contains the Pack calendar as well as helpful resources and documents. This website will send you an "e-Blast" email each Sunday which will contain announcements and a tailored schedule of events based on your child's Scouting year. If you are not receiving the "e-blast" please contact me to ensure I have your email correct.

Also once signed up you'll also be asked to complete the BSA medical Form (Parts A & B only) for your Scout and return asap, as they are needed for participation at Pack campouts and outings.

As for the uniform, the Scout Shop is located down by Balboa park (next to the. Girl Scout facility) and can set you up with Cub Scout uniform. We also have a limited supply of used uniform items that have been donated are available at no charge (inquire with Cubmaster Curtis if interested). No need to buy the pants, just the shirt, hat, and scarf will do (Tigers will be dark Orange themed, Lions are yellow, Wolf are red, Bear are blue, and Webelos are checkered red/green). Cubmaster Curtis makes neckerchief slides with Den-based color schemes and will provide your child with one if needed. The Scout Store has a ton of camping supplies and the rank-based study books as well (not required but are helpful). The Scout Shop is also available online for home delivery for your convenience at scoutshop.org.

Between meetings, new Scouts can get ahead of the curve by practicing the Scout Oath and Law (located on attached Bobcat info sheet). Each meeting will start with the Pledge of Allegiance and those two recitals. They'll need to memorize the Scout Oath and Law in order to get their first rank, the Bobcat badge.

Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will reply asap.

Sincerely,

Curtis Popp
